We all had a good laugh at this death threat by e-mail we got the other day:

First, who uses their real e-mail address to send a death threat? And second, "next show?" I've never even had a first show. As one friend put it: "This isn't the most well-researched death threat."

"And it’s not your fault. Actually it is your fault."

This is a letter I got from a student at CSU Sacramento.

A little background: I started a group called "Rappers Against Bush" during the 2004 election (doesn't that seem like decades ago?). I was giving out free copies of the song "Regime Change."

One of the people I gave it to asked me if I was going to start a group called "Rappers Against Kerry." I said because he is just as lousy as Bush, and that I was voting for Nader anyways.

He immediately went to his car, listened to it, and came back and threw this letter at me. (I was sitting behind a stone bench. I bet if he could have reached me he would have punched me in the face.) All of the spelling and grammar errors are his:

You said that you were preparing 4 bush to be president.
You also said that you were not a fan of John kerry, that if he were elected it wouldn’t be any better. If this is the case you should change your sign to “Rappers Against Whomever is the next president”. Whether Bush or kerry is next elected you will probably have some problem with that. And lets face it Nader has no chance in hell.
So again this diverts back to your dislike of whomever of the two will be the next elected official. Shame on you you un-American asshole.
They problem with society today is that they are all pessimists. When there is nothing better to do you like to bitch. There is always something out there to complain about. And it’s not your fault. Actually it is your fault. Your are ignorant and buy into the media attitude that good news is no news. No one wants to hear good stuff going on. The fact that because a threat was deterred you being alive today has no meaning for you.
I hope you don’t dare call yourself a proud American or a good American citizen. What good do you do by rapping about your displeasure of the nation’s leader that you live under. It’s old. It’s been done.
You are simply buying into a trend that believes bitching with one sided arguments will make the difference. You are nothing more than a Monday morning quarterback foolishly believing that you would have made better decisions under the circumstances that President Bush had to deal with. So as I said before “Shame on you you ignorant un-American asshole.” This country has done so much for you and instead of appreciating and supporting this nation and the leadership its people elects you decide to piss on the hand that give.

Now, I think the funniest thing about this letter is the line: "And lets face it Nader has no chance in hell." Why not? He accuses me of buying into the media's bullshit, isn't it bullshit to believe that only the two parties can win forever? Other notable lines are: "And it’s not your fault. Actually it is your fault" which shows a stream of consciousness/non-self-editing writing style that suggests a mental disorder, and "Shame on you you un-American asshole" which should have been the title of my new album. And who says "Shame on you" nowadays? Grandmas, maybe.
